After talking to my mom over the weekend, I found out my younger cousin is throwing a featherweight boxing party in their back yard for his birthday theme. Ever since he started watching old tapes of Ali, Fraser and Tyson, his little heart fell in love with the sport. His parents have since put him in a training class for little kids at the gym and even though he is not the biggest 9 year old out there he has a lot of heart. His current favorite is Manny Pacquiao because of his size and his dad wants to work that into the birthday idea. The plan is to play classic fights on their TV after ordering some pizza and chicken wings. When I heard that I started wondering where my invite was.
In the back yard, his mom rented a big inflatable boxing ring with head gear and oversized cartoonish boxing gloves surrounded by birthday party supplies so all the little boys can go at it. Most of them are coming from the boxing class so it will be a good place to test out their left and rights. I wish my parents thought of this birthday idea when I was a kid. Sounds like a knockout of a good time.
